One Qualification Shouldn't Block Your Career

You've got the experience. You've got the motivation. You know you'd make a good nurse. But there's one thing standing in the way: GCSE Maths.

Maybe you didn't get the grade at school. Maybe you did, but it was 20 years ago and the certificate is lost. Maybe you've already tried resitting through college and it didn't work out. Fixed schedules don't fit around shift work. Classes assume you remember things you learned decades ago. Practice questions don't help when you don't understand the concepts.

This course is different.

It's designed specifically for adults returning to maths after years away. Tracy Davis, a UK-qualified teacher with over 30 years of experience, teaches every topic from scratch. Not revision. Not practice drills. Actual teaching that builds your understanding step by step.

The course focuses on Foundation tier because that's what you need. Grade 4 is the requirement for nursing and midwifery programmes, and that's exactly what this course prepares you for. No wasted time on content you don't need.

Study whenever works for you. Early mornings before a shift. Late nights after the kids are in bed. Weekends when you have a few hours free. The course is there when you need it, and your progress saves automatically.

Sound Familiar?

"I've been working as a healthcare assistant for years. I know I'd be a good nurse. But I can't get onto the course because of one GCSE I didn't pass 15 years ago."
"I tried the college course, but I work shifts. I couldn't make it to class every Tuesday evening for a year."
"I bought an online course and it just threw me into practice questions. I didn't understand the basics, so I couldn't do them. I need someone to actually explain it."
"I haven't studied anything since school. I don't even remember what's in GCSE Maths. The thought of starting again is overwhelming."

If any of this sounds like you, you're not alone. Thousands of capable adults are stuck in exactly the same position, blocked from nursing careers by one missing qualification.

The problem isn't that you "can't do maths." The problem is that no one has taught you properly since school. College classes move too fast. Revision websites assume you already understand. YouTube videos are fragmented. Private tutoring costs a fortune.

What you need is structured teaching that starts from the beginning, explains things clearly, and lets you work at your own pace.

What Makes This Course Different

Built for adults returning to maths. Designed for grade 4 success.

Actual Teaching, Not Just Revision

Most online courses are revision platforms. They give you practice questions and assume you already understand the content. But if you haven't studied maths for 15 or 20 years, revision isn't what you need. This course actually teaches each topic from scratch. Clear explanations. Worked examples showing every step. Guided practice with hints when you're stuck. You'll understand the "why" behind methods, not just memorise steps.

Designed for Returning Learners

This isn't a school course repackaged for adults. It's built for people who haven't touched maths in years. We assume nothing about what you remember. Every topic is explained from first principles. The pace is patient. The explanations don't skip steps. If you feel like you've "forgotten everything," that's exactly what this course is designed for.

Created by an Experienced Teacher

Tracy Davis has over 30 years of teaching experience, including extensive work with students who struggled in traditional settings. She specialises in clear, patient explanations that make difficult concepts accessible. This isn't a faceless platform or AI-generated content. There's a real teacher behind every lesson, and support options when you need help.

Flexible for Real Life

Shift work. Childcare. Other commitments. Life doesn't stop because you're studying. This course fits around you. Study at 6am before work or 11pm after the kids are asleep. There's no fixed schedule, no weekly attendance, no academic year start date. Work at your own pace, pause when life gets busy, and pick up where you left off.

Will This Qualification Be Accepted?

Yes. GCSE Maths is accepted by every nursing and midwifery programme in the UK. It's the standard qualification that universities require.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requires evidence of numeracy skills at Level 2 for entry to nursing programmes. GCSE grade 4 (or grade C under the old system) meets this requirement at every university.

What about Functional Skills?

Functional Skills Level 2 is accepted by some nursing programmes, but not all. The University of Manchester, for example, explicitly states they do not accept Functional Skills in place of GCSE Maths. Other universities are more flexible.

If you want to keep all your options open, GCSE is the safe choice. It's accepted everywhere. You won't find yourself rejected from your preferred university because of the qualification type.

This course prepares you for GCSE Maths, not Functional Skills. The content would help with Functional Skills too, but we focus on GCSE because it's universally accepted for nursing entry.

Which exam board?

The course covers the AQA GCSE Mathematics specification, but the content is essentially identical across all UK exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC). You can sit whichever exam board is available at your local exam centre.

Bottom line: A GCSE grade 4 from this course will be accepted by every nursing programme in the UK. No exceptions.

For perspective: Private tutoring typically costs £40-60 per hour. To cover the full GCSE syllabus, you'd need 20+ hours minimum. That's £800-1,200 or more. This course provides complete coverage with teacher-quality explanations for a fraction of the cost. And you keep access for 12 months, so you can revisit topics as often as needed.

Taking the Exam

Once you've completed the course, you'll sit the GCSE Maths exam as a private candidate at an approved exam centre.

When are exams?

The main GCSE exams are in May/June each year. For Maths and English specifically, there's also a November resit series.

Where do I take it?

You'll book through an exam centre that accepts private candidates. Many schools and colleges offer this. We can advise on finding centres in your area.

What does it involve?

GCSE Maths has three papers: one non-calculator (90 minutes) and two calculator papers (90 minutes each). Foundation tier papers assess grades 1-5.

The exam booking process can feel confusing if you've never done it before. We can advise on finding exam centres, timelines for booking, and what to expect on the day.

Common Questions

The course is substantially complete and you can start learning immediately. We're adding the final units and making refinements specifically for adult learners (career-relevant examples, etc.) through to February 2026.

Early access means you can start now at the same price, work through available content, and get access to new material as it's released. Your 12 months access officially starts when the full course launches, so you're getting bonus study time by enrolling early.

Most UK nursing and midwifery programmes ask for GCSE Maths at grade 4/C (or above), but entry requirements can vary by university and by route (degree, apprenticeship, access courses, etc.). If in doubt, check the exact requirements for the programme(s) you’re applying to.

This course focuses on Foundation tier (grades 1–5), with grade 4 as the main target for adult learners returning to maths.

Sometimes — but not always. Some universities and training providers accept Functional Skills Level 2, while others specify GCSE Maths.

If you want to keep the widest range of options open, GCSE is usually the safer choice. The best approach is to check the entry requirements for each programme you’re considering.

That depends on your starting point and how much time you can commit. Most learners working through the course at a steady pace are exam-ready in 6-9 months.

If you can study more intensively, you could be ready faster. If life gets busy and you need to slow down, that's fine too. You have 12 months access, and the course is self-paced.

That's exactly what this course is designed for. We assume no prior knowledge. Every topic is taught from scratch, with patient explanations that don't skip steps.

You might be surprised how much comes back once you start. But even if nothing does, the course takes you through everything from the beginning.

Yes. There's no fixed schedule. The course is available 24/7, and lessons are 10-15 minutes each. Study when you can, whether that's 6am, 11pm, or your days off.

Your progress saves automatically, so you can pick up exactly where you left off even if weeks pass between study sessions.

Most people who've struggled with GCSE Maths have either been taught in a classroom that moved too fast, or used "revision" resources that assumed they already understood the content.

This course is different. It actually teaches each topic from scratch, with time for the concepts to sink in. If previous approaches didn't work, that doesn't mean you can't do maths. It means you need a different approach.

That depends on which course tier you choose. Supported Study and Premium Support both include email support, so you can ask questions and get answers. Premium Support also includes weekly group study sessions.

Even Self-Study includes guided practice with hints, so you're not completely on your own when working through problems.

You book through an exam centre that accepts private candidates. Many schools and further education colleges offer this service. You'll register with them, they'll enter you for the exam, and you'll attend their centre on exam day.

We can advise on finding exam centres and navigating the process. Get in touch if you need help.

Yes. Nursing programmes require grade 4, which is available on Foundation tier (grades 1-5). You don't need Higher tier unless you're targeting grade 6 or above, which isn't necessary for nursing entry.

This course focuses specifically on Foundation tier because that's what you need. No wasted time on advanced content you don't require.

It will help with the maths foundations that sit underneath many numeracy tasks: fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, unit conversion, and rearranging formulas.

However, this is a GCSE Maths course, not a clinical medication-calculation programme. Always follow your training provider’s guidance and assessment requirements for clinical numeracy.
